Many Small Business Owners Don’t Prepare for Natural Disasters
Is your small business prepared for natural disasters like Hurricane Irene? Thousands upon thousands of small businesses on the East Coast now have to deal with the billions of dollars in damage caused by Irene this past weekend. A survey conducted by Wells Fargo in July indicates many small businesses may not have been ready to face Hurricane Irene.
According to the poll, which questioned 600 companies, over 50% of owners were not worried about the damage a disaster could cause to their business. A mere 31% of owners believed their company was prepared for a natural disaster and only 37% reported having an emergency plan.
Planning for hurricanes, tornadoes and earthquakes doesn’t rank high on most small business owners’ daily concerns. This past weekend, however, illustrated how important it is to be ready for these catastrophes. Hopefully the billions of dollars in damage across the East Coast caused by Irene this weekend has convinced you to be better prepared for future natural disasters.
