American Express Survey Reveals Skeptical Outlooks
The American Express OPEN Fall 2011 Small-Business Monitor has been released and the responses illustrate small business owners’ still anxious outlook on the economy’s future.
About 38% of the 814 small business owners surveyed said the recession is still happening and 69% anticipate a double-dip recession. Only 31% of respondents reported that they plan on increasing the number of individuals they employ in the next six months.
“What I see is that a lot of business owners are still in a holding pattern,” says Alice Bredin, a small-business adviser to American Express OPEN.
In this uncertain economy small business owners are still wary of the future. Despite some signs the economy is recovering many owners are doubtful that we are out of the recession and as a result do not plan to increase their employee count soon.
