Benefits of Employing the Disabled

Hiring disabled employees is more than a mere ethical act, it can also mean big money in tax credits and deductions for small businesses.

Small businesses that employ disabled workers qualify for $7,400 in tax credit annually.  If the company improves facilities to make them more accessible for disabled employees there is a $15,000 tax deduction available.

Some businesses don’t have a choice about hiring disabled workers.  A new government mandate dictates that any business involved in a government contract over $10,000 is required to take affirmative action to hire the disabled.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics 70% of Americans with disabilities would like to work full-time, yet only around 21% do.  Employing the disabled not only alleviates this problem, but also can mean around $20,000 in tax benefits.
