Social Media During the Holidays

How is social media affecting your holiday sales?  Maybe quite a bit more than you think.  A recent poll of 4,500 adults, conducted by marketing firm Mr. Youth, found that this year social media may make or break your holiday season.

Guess the number of consumers who give or receive product recommendations on Facebook.  Was your estimate close to a whopping 93%, the percentage of study participants who said they share or read friends’ recommendations of the social media site.  An additional 65% reported that receiving a recommendation prompted them to purchase an item.

Is your business active on social media sites?  The study found that 36% of individuals who use social media are more trusting of companies with a social media presence. Perhaps one of the most interesting results of the poll is that 66% of respondents said they made a Black Friday or Cyber Monday purchase as a direct result of a social media interaction.

This study, by Mr. Youth, further supports the importance of social media.  To learn more about social media and small business check out BIZ TV programming.  Clearly social media can have a major effect of the success of your sales this season and the rest of the year.
