Entrepreneur of 2011 Awards
The Entrepreneur of 2011 is Lee Rhodes, the founder of glassbaby. Glassbaby is a line of glass candle holders that is quickly gaining an enthusiastic fan base. Rhodes began the company in 1998 when she found solace from her lung cancer woes in the beauty of blown glass. Now healthy Rhodes makes sure her business supports cancer patients, and 7% of glassbaby’s profits benefit cancer research.
Other winners of Entrepreneur’s contest were Adam Nelson and Gabrielle Palermo. Nelson won the title Emerging Entrepreneur of 2011. He founded Good Nite Lite, which produces a device that encourages children to go to bed and wake up at the proper times. Palermo was named College Entrepreneur of 2011. She and a team of fellow students are working to transform shipping boxes into portable medical clinics to be used in war zones and third world countries.
