Small Businesses That Saw Growth in 2011

This past year showed slow, but definite, improvements in the economy and gave small businesses hope for the future.  Some small businesses even saw significant growth in sales.  Sageworks, a financial analysis company, recently reported the industries in which independent businesses saw the most growth in 2011.  Here are the top industries and the percentage increase of sales they saw in the past year:

1. Automobile Dealers – 14.97%

2. Electronics and Appliances Stores – 11.14%

3. Sporting Goods, Hobby and Musical Instrument Stores – 8.21%

4. Clothing Stores – 7.01%

5. Specialty Foods Stores – 6.04%

6. Furniture Stores – 5.57%

7. Grocery Stores – 2.88%

8. Building Material and Supplies Dealers- 2.59%

9: Limited-Service Eating Places – 2.51%

10: Full-service restaurants – 1.41%

The new year starts in a few days and small businesses have many hopes and fears about 2012.  Hopefully small businesses in the above industries, as well as others, will continue to prosper in the coming year.  What industries to you expect will see a lot of growth in 2012?
