Small Business Optimism is Up

Optimism among small business owners continued to increase last month, according to a poll from the National Federation of Independent Business.
December was the fourth consecutive month that small business owners reported a growth in confidence.  The NFIB small business confidence index increased 1.8 points to 93.8.  Despite the improving attitudes of small business owners, the NFIB warns that the index is still close to recessionary levels.
“About half of the gain was due to reduced concerns about business conditions 6 months ahead and improved expectations for real sales gains.”
Tuesday’s NFIB report indicates that small businesses are still struggling, but that many are feeling more confident than they have in months.  We will be interested to see if the optimism level continues to improve in January and into the new year!

  1. I can feel the optimism, but it is definitely cautious. The cost of new taxes to support the health care bill are weighing heavy on small business. More thoughts of outsourcing which is less costly than carrying the burden of being tax collector and tax payer which it is a role relegated to anyone willing to hire another person.
