Feeling Less Intelligent During Meetings?
Ever feel like your IQ drops the second you get to an important business meeting? According to new research that is actually very normal.
Virginia Tech’s Carilion School of Medicine and Research Institute recently released a report that says group settings, such as business meetings and even cocktail parties, can make participants less intelligent.
In social settings the problem solving skills of many study participants dropped. Researchers studied IQ tests taken by participants before and during group activity, and measured their brain activity with fMRI technology.
“You may joke about how committee meetings make you feel brain dead, but our findings suggest that they may make you act brain dead as well,” said Read Montague of the Carilion School of Medicine and Research Institute
That some people feel less intelligent during social settings is now scientifically proven, but researchers are still unsure why. Do you feel dumber during business meetings than when you’re working by yourself?
