South by Southwest and Small Business

Next week is the 20th South by Southwest music and film festival.  The festival attracts entertainment lovers from around the world, but did you know the event also draws in small businesses?

In fact there is a competition every year at the festival for startups.  The “accelerator” startup contest challenges small businesses to compete for prizes from sponsors and free passes for the following year.

The “accelerator” competition isn’t the only thing the festival has to offer small businesses.  There will also be a Start-up Village next week.  Entrepreneurs, investors, mentors, and others will congregate here to discuss small business problems and opportunities.

If you decide to launch your small business at South by Southwest you will be following in some pretty impressive footsteps.  Both Twitter and Foursquare launched at the festival.

For 20 years music and film enthusiasts have flocked to South by Southwest in Austin, TX.  Many people don’t know, however, that the festival is also a terrific opportunity for small business owners to show off their company and network.  If you can’t make it to South by Southwest this year, consider buying a ticket for next year’s festival!
