Startup Rate Reaches Record Low

The Census Bureau’s Center for Economic Studies and the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation found that the startup rate dipped to 7.87% last year, an all-time low. 394,000 new business created 2.3 million new jobs according to the report. The report also found that only 35% of businesses have been created in the past five years, compared to almost 50% in the 1980s. The startup rate peaked in 1987 at 13.02%.
