How To Make Your Business Green
There’s a stigma surrounding the idea of taking your business from average producer to lean, green, fighting machine. The thought is that going green will cost you a lot of money. That’s not the case. Going green can help you save money in some cases. And, it’s a lot easier than you think.
Here are our tips on how to go green.
1. If you’re not using it, turn it off.
That’s right. The first one is the easiest one. When you aren’t using the room, turn off the lights. At the end of the day, turn the computer off instead of putting it on sleep mode. Some studies shows it saves 50% of the energy used in your office. So, if you aren’t going to print anything, go ahead it turn it off. Oh, and speaking of printers:
2. Make the office paperless
Obviously, you’re going to need physical copies of some things. However, if you are going to be sending memos around all day, email just makes more sense. Cut down on ink, energy, paper-use and have a more timely delivery…it’s a win-win. If you’re being inundated with emails, fear not. Think of an alternative form of communicating. No, not semaphore. Find a texting or online chatting system that can have you communicating outside of the inbox, but still on the desktop.
3. Use recycled paper
It’s not like you’re painting a new Mona Lisa. Recycled paper works just fine.
4. Use both sides
If you have to make a mock up of presentation, why not print it on both sides of the paper? For things that don’t absolutely require a single-sided print, use both sides to save you some time. Not sure how to print on both sides? Save old papers and flip them in the printer. It might not be the next page on the back, but it will work for what you need it for.
5. Lead by example
Not everyone comes from a strictly recycling home. These habits might not be instilled in your employees. The best you can do is lead by example. Hopefully, they’ll figure if it’s good enough for the boss, it’s good enough for me. And, even if they don’t, your behavior is still important.
