Born to Be an Entrepreneur
There is definitely an mindset that drives many entrepreneurs to success. Some people are born with it; others seek it and cultivate it. They all share, on some basic level, the same motivation to see their ideas come to life. But, how do you know you have that mindset?
Here are some ways to know you have the heart, soul, and mind of an entrepreneur:
1. You’ve been fired. For a reason.
Sometimes, entrepreneurs can have trouble with authority. It’s not so much that they’re willfully acting out against management. Sometimes they just want to see their ideas implemented. Maybe you made an in-the-moment decision that wasn’t authorized by the main office. Maybe you had a disagreement on an efficiency issue. You might just be an entrepreneur. If you were fired because you were late or lazy or for not doing your job, that’s not a good sign.
2. You want to do more.
Are you always on the clock? Do you hate leaving work because there’s still so much to do? Do you think about work even when you’re not on the clock? These are some strong entrepreneur impulses. Also, you’re probably going to be fighting these once you do embrace your entrepreneurial side and start a business. Learn how to deal with the feeling of wanting to work all the time by practicing good time management.
3. Conformity is a four letter word.
It sucks when you don’t fit in, especially at work. The bad news for the entrepreneurial minded is that they see the forest in a world full tree-gazers. Don’t worry about it. There are ways to work in a system without actually conforming. If you’re not quite ready to break out on your own, trying to get along with the people that you don’t see eye-to-eye with is good practice for the future. Celebrate your non-conformity, just don’t rub it in anyone’s face.
4. This can be better.
Do you say that to yourself? Or do you find yourself saying, “there has to be more than this?” That just might be the entrepreneur inside you calling out to you. If you have the drive to be constantly improving things and trying to make the world a better place, you’re probably driven to take your ideas and go places.
